Shipment of new LEDs
A friend of mine who I’ve been working with found a good deal on LED’s from a Chinese supplier and put in a bulk order. I went in on it and my share of the stuff arrived today!
I got a few hundred RGB SMD LED’s along with some very interesting RGB strip lighting. I also picked up a few DMX controllers for good measure.
The LED strip is pretty interesting stuff. It’s thin, flexible, waterproof, and can be cut every few inches or so. It already provides all the current limiting resistors that it needs so there’s nothing left for you to do but hook it up to a 12V supply. Furthermore, I checked the spec sheet for the individual LED’s and I’m left suspecting that you could safely drive the strip as high as 15V without exceeding the
constant-on rating for the LED’s (50mA).
Now all I need is a project in which to use them, but I suspect I won’t be without an idea or two for very long.
For now I haphazardly slapped a few of the striplights up on the ceiling in the lab, hooked them up to one of the DMX controllers in demo mode (I need to get a DMX to USB or ethernet interface) and now I have DMX controlled mood lighting.
